Level OSI: Switches of level 2 (data link)
Level 2 switches operate on the basis of physical network addresses. These addresses, also known as MAC, or level of binding, physical addresses are used to identify each device. Most devices receive a permanent physical address during the manufacturing process.
Level 2 switches are very fast because they just sorting physical addresses, without attempting to inmore about the destination of the packets of data.
