Main features
Flat screen type: flat panel televisions use the plasma or LCD technology. LCD displays use liquid crystals, which are optical shutters and are used to control the amount of light that passes through the fine screen. The resulting colours are vivid and realistic. LCD displays are commonly used for ovens microwave, calculators and computers, and overheads (up to 153 cm) and televisions with cathode-ray tube (between 25 and 76 cm). Plasma screens use a complex system of gas-based on them. They offer two major benefits: a clear picture and a flat design that allows to put the device on the wall or on a support. Display format: A television can be equipped with different types of built-in tuners:
NTSC (National Television System Committee) corresponds to the analog television broadcast standard most widely used in North America. Talking about standard with 525 lines, while it displays in reality than 480 lines. Over the next years, the NTSC standard will be replaced by the new digital television standards.
The PAL (Phase Alternating Line) standard, which appeared in the early 1960s, is the most common standard in Europe. It is characterized by a wider than the standard NTSC channel bandwidth, allowing it to display 635 lines.
